Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences
Dr. Ileana Galdamez earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from UCLA, where she also obtained a M.S. in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering and a B.S in Environmental Science with a minor in Environmental Engineering. She is also conducting research at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the Water & Ecosystems group through the NASA Postdoctoral Program. She uses satellite remote sensing for coastal water quality monitoring in coral reef ecosystems, to monitor sewage pollution, and wildfire pollution impacts. Her environmental microbiology research focuses on studying the fate and transport of antibiotic resistance in rivers and beaches, such as the LA River. Before joining 晩晩当際際夊消消夊2023, she taught introductory microbiology laboratory courses at Mount Saint Marys University. Passionate about education, she is committed to integrating authentic research experiences and evidence-based approaches into her classroom. Galdamez is a first-generation Latina, born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and she hopes to inspire her students to harness their skills and knowledge in the stewardship of the environment and in service to others, all for the glory of God.
